Or simply a microcontroller configuration that simply offers adequate I/O lines. Many that are thinking 'C922 are stuck in the past with external EPROM and SRAM. Modern derivatives with plenty of on-board FLASH and SRAM make it possible to have full complement of I/O for additional connections like a keypad.
