If what you all guys say is right, then I am certainly following a wrong book.

I am curious to know which book you are using that says 8051 port pins are outputs at power up.

Ian

The book is titled "The 8051 Microcontroller and Embedded Systems" Published by Pearson Education Inc. It is so mentioned in the chapter "I/O Port Programming". Maybe the book has written about some secific derivative of 8051? I have checked the datasheet of Atmel At89C51, and found what you guys say is right. I need to check what the Intel 8051 datasheet has to say. In the mean time if anybody gets hands on the Intel 8051 datasheet, please do post it. I am really worried about the inconsistency. Or maybe I shall write to the publisher to help me understand what the book has written about.
