Here in Canada once you sell someone an item they own the item all they owe you is the money. To circumvent this we must use a rent to own contract where the title does not change hands until the final payment clears my bank. Under this umbrella I can recover my rental unit within two weeks after a default without having to refund any money. An added benifit is that any attempt to forstall my recovery will be treated as theft.
I have only had to invoke this once and long before i did so I had written off the customer and decided that I could take the loss of customers that he might generate.
