#90885 - Power Line Communications(PLC).. Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Hi all,
Speaking about interfacing a digital device with power lines, there is a standard which exists under the name "Home Plug" http://www.homeplug.org/en/index.asp which is a body specifying some protocols and requirements pertaining to PLC. Meanwhile, for transmitting and receiving bits using a microcontroller and having power line as medium, there was a chip from National Semiconductors, LM 1896 which was essentially designed as power line transreciever. But, it has become obsolete now. I searched for similar product in net but i could find nothing.. Can anyone suggest an alternative? I am planning to implenent a device control system in which all electrical appliances in a building will be controlled from a single node using Power Line as the info carrying medium. I thought this project long ago, but due to unavailability of the above said IC, i was forced to drop the idea. Also, detecting and decoding bits using discrete hardware is highly difficult in power line interfacing. Regards, Vignesh. |
