The example that springs to mind is an 8051 communicating with another processor via shared memory; either the other processor would have to be forced to "pack" its variables, or the 8051 would have to be forced to observe the alignment requirements. And then there's the issue of endian-ness, of course... Ah, the joys of cross-platform interworking! |
