#91624 - 3.3 to 5 and more Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Michael et al:
First the mix of 5V and 3.3V is always a pain When making 3.3V chips output to 5V logic I never use pullups, I use HCT gates such as 74HCT14. They are cheap and have 3.3V levels in and 5V levels out. NOTE this is HCT, not HC. Second this chip can end up getting rather hot if you try to pump a lot of current through the LEDs due to the fact that the outputs drop about 0.7 volts at higher currents. The chip is JUST fine for lower current applications as a local front panel type LED driver. Thirdly I think the part is a bit more expensive than what I would like to see. The heat problem is exaggarated when using the 6276 (16 drives) which I thus advise against. The equivalent ST2221A is a better and much cheaper chip, but not very easy to get hold of in smaller quantities. If you want to drive real hard Rohm has equivalent chips with cooling "legs".
