#91743 - Level translator
Responding to: ???'s previous message

Hi,

I have a 8051 which runs on 5V DC powersupply.
I need to interface it to FPGA which has 3.3V supply.

For HIGH logic levels:

From 8051 to FPGA I would have to add a resistor to drop the voltage from 5V to 3.3V

From FPGA to 8051 I need to up from 3.3V to 5V
Should I use some kindof buffer ?
Since my 8051 is a TTL would I need to up the voltage ?
Cause TTL VOH = 2.4V so 3.3V should be considered as HIGH.

Any suggestions ?

Thanks,
Archilles

How about a logic level translator? Maxim seems to make a variety of these; here is an example.
