On many parts there is a fixed mfg ID and a fixed part ID. Then some parts also have a place you can put in a user S/N or ID part number thing. I work with AVRs and they have provisions for this. The SiLabs have 128 bytes of extra FLASH that you can do pretty much anything with. I cant say for sure what the Philips parts have. Each mfg addresses this problem in unique ways and you need to be aware that old parts from Philips may be entirely different from the newest parts.
