The 9 bit mode makes thing a bit easier when using a master/slave comms arrangement - but the killer is trying to look at these comms on a PC! That's why I prefer to use 8 bit comms - if your protocol is ascii only, you can use unique characters for the start and end. Modbus ASCII uses the ':' for start of packet and CR/LF to end the packet and your data is ascii hex only. Being all ascii makes it easier to debug. |
