#97684 - I disagree with your disagreement...! Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I said:
IAP requires ISP - and then some! It is most certainly not the same thing! Erik Malund said:
I disagree, I think you got it revrsed as a "typho" No, I meant what I said: ISP = In System Programming (or "Programmable"); that is, the chip can be programmed without the need to remove it from the system and put it into a device programmer - so, clearly, if it can't be programmed in-system then you have no chance of programming it in-Application! I will say the opposite "ISP require IAP" No, I disagree. But perhaps I should clarify my original statement a bit: I said:
IAP requires ISP - and then some! It IAP obviously requires that the device can be programmed in-system (ISP); however, the fact that a device has an ISP facility does not mean that the ISP facility can be used to implement IAP! I think I was talking about the terms in general, but Erik was looking more at specific implementations of ISP and IAP? Maybe my initial statement implies that IAP is a superset of ISP - but that would not be true; both IAP and ISP have certain common requirements, but one does not encompass the other. Erik said:
some SILabs chips have JTAG ISP and totally separate mechanisms for IAP. Yes - it's the same with the Zylogic (nee Triscend) - the device can be programmed In-System using JTAG but, if you want to do In-Application programming, that's a whole different story! |
