My simple ISR (increments an integer counter), and the rest of the program, is written in C, and compiled with SDCC. So you are saying that if I replace the ISR code with assembly code I should get something on the order of 5.4 usec instead of that lousy 40 usec timing I was observing. That is drastic! I certainly will try assembly.
