Have you ever tried running with a cutting lube ? We'd never work OFHC copper dry when we machine it at work, we always use a mixture of thin oil and "White spirit" (aka "Stoddards Solvent" or mineral spirits) The traditional lube is just the mineral spirits, but we find a 30% addition of oil really improves the cut.
