The device (which I want to protect) is a device powered by stabilised 9Vdc adapter.
Directly on this 9V rail there is an LCD backlight (via a series resistor).
So, in case someone accidently uses the wrong adapter I want the crowbar to protect this backlight.
The rest of the 5V circuitry is powered by a wide input range SMPS so no problem there.

then this may be simpler:
replace the resistor with a (diode and) CC source
