As many have already said, 8255 is not a good choice. Search the forum for "Serial I/O Expander" and you will find good information. Many companies offer such devices. If hard to find in local market, you can use CD4094 like shift register for output exapnsion and CD4021 for input.
As Kai said, it is easy to route PCB for serial expanders than parallel ones since serial expanders can be cascaded for expansion and they require just 2 to 3 lines from micro. You are doing an interesting project. What sensors you are planning to use to acquire traffic data? |
