It is worth a read. also a footnote: ESD resistance involves that the micro survives both electrically and functionally. I have seen projects where the electronics almost could withstand direct lightning strokes, but if you let lose a charged fart the thingy stopped working till a 'reboot'. This is is very much a design issue because there is no way you can predict and generate all possible combinations of ESD.
