These false readings, also called "ghosting", can be avoided by using additional diodes

If more than one switch is pressed, the diodes only have a purpose if multi key presses are legal. if multikey is not supported the effects of ghosting are - as hould be - a rejected reading.

Actually a 'simple' routine will find one of the keys, a 'full scan' routine will realize the multi key press.
