It not fast enough. The datasheet says it will run at 30 Mhz in x2 mode. So I am already overclocking. Atmel does not have any other fasters chips in the PLCC 42 or 52 package. I like this chip because of the ISP UART option and 1k or so XRAM. I already have some firmware mostly written. And since I don't have a surface mount soldering iron, it needs to be in a PLCC package. The Maxim/Dallas DS89C4x0 series (430..450, depending on how much FLASH you require) is a one-clocker, i.e. executes one instruction cycle per oscillator period, AND does so at rates up to 33 MHz. It is also ISP capable, and allows IAP (In Application Programming) in case you need to modify data tables in FLASH. It's also not from ATMEL, which may prove to be a significant benefit. visit http://www.maxim-ic.com/quick_view2.cfm/qv_pk/4078 for more information. RE |
