I don't know about using serial port of Keil,but I use pararell port to insert h/w lock of this tool ,
about laptop and tool set up I can't tell you because it's up to each system integrator (computer producer).
if you can't use window. the keil compiler can be run in DOS mode which I always use for my works.
Create a batch file which contain keil script .
