Migrate to the AT89S52, buy the Atmel's "ISP cable" and program the AT89S52 by the free Atmel's ISP programming software.

I'd bet there are bigger chances for non-working SPI-ISP via LPT cable (even a purchased one) than parallel programming driven by a microcontroller (properly programmed with proper HW design) - a handful of reasons given http://www.8052.com/forum/read.phtml?id=122146 .

I never had problems programming AT89Cxx nor AT89Sxx using my own "gadgets", but none of them was the LPT-style cable, always a controller-based design. Call them kitchenware ((C)Erik), if they follow the specs, they have no such reason to fail.
