#124530 - A good Laugh

But the niche areas, like chip programmimg, will be the last to move so in the mean time you probably need to keep a Windows machine.

... said Ian Bell, who gives advice on 8051 programming under linux on his 8052.com homepage... :-)

I know it sounds amusing bit I am a realist. I firmly believe Linux is the way to go, but I know it's not there yet. I am trying to do my bit to get it there in our field.

PS. AFAIK the hardware in question is an mcu-based parallel programmer, with published sources and serial communication with PC; it would be not a hopeless attempt to revive it under any operating system supporting. Would it accept intelhex-type commands in AT89C51RD2-style, FLIP has a linux port which could be possibly (ab)used...

Do you have a link to the published code?

As far as FLIP is concerned, it uses the Tcl language so it runs fine under Linux - unfortunately the source code is not published.
