Thanks for the clarification, yes you are right I am looking for a microcontroller with EEPROM (either internal or external).

I hope I can transfer a full 2kb to the EEPROM coming from the modem without loosing synchronization (since it takes more time to write to a serial memory). The lowest baud rate the modem supports is 4800bps. Else I will have to look at other options.
