My point is that "it works in the simulator, but not in reality" does not say diddlysquat. If the only tool you have is a simulator, it will help you greatly getting rid of "clerical errors" but the really pesky ones, the timing errors, no simulator can help you with.

Jez, in the (your) FPGA world simulators show timing, in the uC world, they do not.
