Thanx Joe and Andy.

I have had a quick look, and the P82B715 device will do the job.

It is however a bit expensive - aprox 3 USD a piece - and you need at least two.

I still would be glad to hear, if any of you have done a ribboncable i2c off board solution without the buffer.
