Should you really be using a Schmitt trigger for the inverter in the crystal oscillator? Ideally, the feedback resistor biases the inverter at the point of maximum gain.
Some Schmitt triggers these days are actually a RS latch, with set and reset driven by inverters with different thresholds. They will tend to oscillate without a crystal, and may oscillate at the wrong frequency with a crystal. |
