a small serial EEPROM can be had for $0.25 and, if that endurance is not good enough, then use FRAM (ramtron).
If password security is essential, here is a trick. Store the customer in a socketed EEPROM/FRAM and give the service techs a chip with a known password. That way you do not need to have the 'service passwoerd' (which ALWAYS end up 'common knowledge') functional. Erik |
