If you want to keep your - or the customer's - password hidden even if somebody has physical access to the board, the internal SRAM is an ideal place to store it (if there is no internal EEPROM).
I agree this is the method of choice of some 10 years ago; today there are microcontrollers with internal EEPROM or writable FLASH readily available for little or no extra cost. JW |
