Actually, I do have the K&R book (in fact I have two - funnily, the local translation came out in green paperback so we call it "the green book" here) and I even made a desperate attempt to read it some 10 years ago.

I can't really recall if it was there or anywhere else (and I can't find ony one of them (people often borrow them from me, and I don't understand why)), but I think it WAS there - and that's my favourite section - where K&R explain, why it is so good that in C you never know what int is (OK they use different wording, like "native word width" or so).
