By speaking of an 8051 as "knowing" something, Joseph was being anthropomorphic since an 8051 is an inanimate object and, therefore, cannot actually "know" anything!

Similarly, an 8051 cannot "assume" anything nor "care" about anything, but it is a convenient shorthand - or metaphor - to write in such terms...
