It's not recommended to steal power from MIDI. It certainly has been done in the past (think Anateks Pocket series), but because of the 220R current limiting resistor you can't steal much. You are better off supplying your own. Plus you can't guarantee what the internal circuit of various MIDI devices contains. MIDI is designed with isolation in mind, not bus powering like USB can do.
