#151457 - Encryption worth it? Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Thank you for the replies, both for the technical info and the philosophical info. Keep 'em coming.
It's the hardware copying that is a concern to me, there is no secret data. The product is a low volume premium priced piece which makes hardware copying inviting to underground manufacturers who could just plug and play the code if it were unencrypted. My alternative is to not offer IAP, but just secure the micro with the security bits which may be the route we go, but the thought of IAP is tasty to field fix any bugs that may arise down the road. So with this in mind, is encrypted IAP still worth it? If it's easy to implement, I would think so. And if it is worth it, what are some good choices from Atmel or NXP, or whoever that can keep the bootloader secure and also where can I find some key producing bootloaders? |
