The HD44780 is very pervasive, and several other manufacturers have cloned it over the years. I, myself, have never encountered one that didn't use essentially the same timing as well as the same protocol, though, with advances in technology (die shrinks) the performance might improve. I've never encountered a pseudo-HD44780 chip, the spec's for which weren't within a few (<<10) percent of the original.
If you or anyone else, has specific information indicating which controllers deviate from the HD44780 specification, it would be a good thing to have published and available here, since it might affect one's choices. RE |
