Yes, that is exactly what I was thinking!

Afterall a good example is our house wiring.

And that is exactly the example that I ws going to give!

We long ago switched from fuses for house power distribution

As did we - although the distribution panel (officially "Consumer Unit" over here) is still commonly called the "fusebox"...
