#15751 - RE: IRDA-Palm Interfaced device - duh |
before going to IrDA, consider whether your application and customer would tolerate a palm serial cable to get the info via a rs232 plug.
advantages: you can get to market faster, take customer money in sales, invest some profits in upgrading to offer an IrDA model, charge them more for the IrDA model, vacation in Hawaii for a month, come back and drop the RS232 model altogether. note that cabling, connectors, ESD protection and panel cut-outs for RS232 cost more than implementing IrDA if you do your own software. yes - software development is expensive but its a onetime cost and not a recurring cost like components. lucky this isn't an accounting forum or else we'd get into a debate on that. :) duh John S.: i sent you the email address. |
