Let me add that today there are several '51 derivatives with built in ROM bootloaders (e.g. P89C51Rx2) and these can be updated easily.


Is this still true in the field ?

You must switch manually the board into BOOTMODE ?

And if the bootcode is in Flash, you can use a simple RS232 connection to update your unit. Like a PC these days.
