Thanks Michael,

Yes, you're right that the first digit only has the two segments needed to make up a "1". The lookup table isn't the problem. The display panel has 12 cathode pins each controlling two segments and two anode pins which are connected to half of all the segments so that every unique combination of anode and cathode controls a specific segment. There are actually some dots in there as well and a special line for the colon in between the hours and minutes. I'm just having trouble with the interface at the moment. Please see my previous reply with diagram.
