I am working with products that is currently using Siemens and Wavecom modules. We have been using Ericsson and Nokia modules. We have evaluated a number of other modules too, and the selected module might quickly change if we get a specific requirement or a manufacturer happens to introduce a new module.

Most probably, you could find the cheapest free-standing modems at around €100, which is way cheaper than your $350.
Its not My modem but cermetek's. Monoply money ? ,I think GSM in itself is a monopoly ,A GSM standard is a Standard which has nothing to do with any company product .You are free to change the modules any time with any company of your choice . I have used their other modems which clearly had an edge over other products in the market. Ericsson? does Ericsson makes modems/other GSM products any more ? they are usually Royalty seakers if I am not wrong with never ending Patent list . Wavecom modules are good beyond doubt I have used those. -Ap |
