I have just had this very discussion in another forum: someone had extended their printer cable way beyond accepted limits and - surprise! - they were getting "funny results!"

If you design a system outside the defined specification, then its behaviour is undefined: that means it can do anything - it doesn't have to be correct, reasonable or even consistent!!

Always stick to the spec!
