#21177 - let\'s be reasonable |
The '51 is a microCONTROLLER, not a DSP unit or a microPROCESSOR.
For applications for which the '51 was never intended use another processor. We all love the familiar, but if you have to learn DSP, then learn a DSP processor at the same time. It is, of course, nice to see Cygnal et al provide us with solutions where our old design has been 'improved' enough to run out of steam, but for a new design requiring breathtaking speed use a processor designed for such applications. Today, for me at least, the main problem in '51 applications is EMI, I long to see even more memory than the 64k of flash and 8K of RAM in the 668 move inside the chip. Also I would like to see a clock multiplier that would allow reasonably fast processing with a lower xtal frequency. one mans opinion Erik |
