I agree with what has already been said here. VB should work--I've done a number of time & attendance projects with the 8052 & VB combination. Works fine.
On the other hand, if you don't already have VB and don't have a specific reason to choose VB, try Delphi. Regardless of what you do, VB is slow, bulky, and generally inefficient. Only with VB can you write a two-line program and have an install that measures 2MB in length. :) I've been meaning to pick up a copy of Delphi and start using it instead of VB--but I'm starting to think my next major move will be a move from Windows to Linux rather than a move from VB to Delphi.
