Eric and Saji have looked at your circuit. Saji suggests tying pin 30 High. Your circuit doesn't show that. He suggests pulling pin 8 and 9 on the 232 to ground: your circuit doesn't show that either. You really could do with a better reset source: at least make one with an RC circuit and a schmitt trigger (74HC14 ?) , or something.

If you need help, your circuit needs to show what you have REALLY built, not what you THINK you have built.

WELL, Steve, firstly, I've shown the circuit I've actually built and not what I imagined is true. Then, I've incorporated the corrections made by saji earlier(some are proposed later).
Also, I've tied down Pin 9 (RST) to Ground with a 8k2 resistor (apart from the capacitor). Comming to Schmitt Trigger, where and how do I connect it and what is its use??

Thanks for all the elaborate list of checkpoints. Today Im off with all those in a couple of hours (going to the lab).I'll sure let you know what happened.

ANYWAY, you suggested +10v and -10v at pins 2 and 6. But the capacitors I used just give that (atleast thats what the Datasheet says). You dont have to give an external power supply. The capacitors will provide them for you.

So, for the MAX 232 (DIP) Port, I'd simply connect Pin 6 to Gnd via a Capacitor and tie Pin 15 directly to ground...Thats what Id do.
