There are lots of terminal emulator programs similar to hyperterminal available on the internet. You could try:

which I downloaded recently. I haven't used it much but so far it has worked well.

Hyperterminal is absolutely full of bugs - if you use it you are never sure whether your code isn't working or if hyperterminal is sulking.
