Are you saying that you have 2 transistors both labelled "2N2222" but having different pinouts?

On the other hand, I don't think that there's any grounds to assume that a transistor labelled "2N2222" will have the same pinout as a transistor labelled "PN2222" or a transistor labelled "MPS2222" and certainly not one labelled "MPS2907"

Just because a transistor comes in a TO-92 package is no guarantee that it will have any particular pinout; I think TO-92 transistors are available with all possible pinouts!
