You can send command to LCD and take the cursor where you want to. That would be easier approach then keeping track where the cursor is?

Cursor will be availabel +1 to last charactor in the row.

You can make cursor invisible by issuing command to the LCD, so make sure you want to see the cursor or you dont want to see the cursor.
