#3206 - RE: O'er the RAM parts we watched...
Hello all,

Thank-you Steve and Jay for your humour during the day.. lunch-time detention for both of you for miss-behaving ;-)..

Jay, the use of memory in this project is extreamly complicated. The maximum amount of memory needed will be determined by what the user is doing with the system. Also, the memory required is not directly linked to the 4096 (or less, or more) ports, it is also allocated dynamically and tables with set entry sizes are not used.

Although using a Z80 might have the built-in DRAM support, it really is a bit too dated for this project.. and the microcontroller versions in my opinion are a load of crap!.. I need lots of memory, and lots of processing speed... using a PC to do the job is not an option. After a lot or reading about the Motorola 68K processors, I, like Jay seem to have developed a disliking towards them.. They're far too 'inside-out' for my liking.

I've decided an XA processor is probably best suited to this application. Now I just have to get the memory to connect to it and I'm sorted!!

Steve, I'm getting the feeling that I might have mis-understood your last e-mail you sent me (not the one you sent today).

Matt.
