my 2 y/o camera takes appreciably longer at highest res/quality

My 2-year old digital camera (which was at the upper-end of high-end) takes pictures almost instantaneously. The newer inexpensive cameras seem to be much slower. Have you ever tried to take pictures of puppies with a slow digital camera? Grrrrr.
