Naw... its not a $70K micro. Its a components purchase for a small production run of (X) units.

I need (X) micros with those components. What I suggested was holding that order back to motivate the distributor to find me (X) Temics. I've put this ploy into action but I'm not betting on it.

The small production run is for a new model (new software features). I'd prefer to use ISP Flash and load blank micros into the SMT pick&place machine so that we don't have to commit to code release until we box it up and ship it. This works better for beta testing as it can be done with production units.

With OTP, I either have to used PLCC Sockets to build the boards or finish the software before we program quad flatpacks and THEN build the boards.

If they ever DELIVER Flash ISP, it will speed up time-to-market.

Of course, I could redesign my microprocessor card to an HC11 in just 6 weeks so I'll do that before waiting 30+ weeks for Philips or Temic. :-)

While writing this, one distributor informed me he has some Philips stock and can ship today (for the right price). I'd prefer Temic if I can get it at a price I've seen quoted elsewhere.

While this might solve our headache of the week, I'm still curious if European stock is more available.
