I thank everyone for their input. It appears that pretty much everyone is against the forum being used for "sale" messages. I was undecided earlier but everyone's comments have definitely convinced me that allowing such messages would be a Bad Thing (tm).

As a result, I'm going to adopt a "no sale messages" policy effective immediately, even for individuals selling used items. As always, you can mention or promote a commercial solution as a valid response to a legitimate question when applicable, but no unsolicited promotion or sales messages will be permitted. This is the same policy as before except that individuals selling used equipment is now explicitly included in the restriction.

I may, in the future, add a feature to the website separate from the forum where short "for sale" messages could be posted for individuals selling items they no longer need. But I'll analyze that possibility later since I'm way too busy to develop that kind of functionality right now.
