------------------------------- A laptop with a C-compiler and a device with a Cygnal chip on board is a very good alternative. Mind you, no solution is perfect when you're in the middle of an actual field in the middle of a hailstorm, like I was last week... :o( The downloading into the chip bit I think is a bit scary. The '52 ran from RAM, you could screw things right up, switch off and have nice, pristine code back again Ah Memories.... Last year I balanced a lap top on a ladder, in "horizontal" rain, while covered with a wet tarpaulin ! Erik tells of working on a system outside in -20 C.... I too have used the 8052 Basic for many years, but like you say: Demands have outgrown its performance. Still, it's a very good introduction to embedded systems. It would be nice if something like the Basic Stamp could be introduced based on the 8052. I really don't see why that should be too difficult. What "form factor" (ugly term) do "stamps" come in ?
