Cygnal chips come in various sizes. The 'F226 should be able to support the BASIC-52 I would think. It has 8K of code FLASH and 1K of onboard XRAM. That chip comes in a tiny 48 pin TQFP. (That is it fits on a PCB land that is 10 mm2.

That sized chip can fit in between the rows of pins on a standard 0.6 inch wide DIP header. I even packaged one of these little jobs on a small module that adapted the part to a PLCC-44 socket as shown in the pictures below.
