#43004 - RE: Using serial port-less laptops Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I have used the USB to D9 Serial port cables. They work fine as long as the cable comes with a good driver AND the PC software program accesses the COM port using a logical level access to the Windows COMM port API.
Do note however any old DOS programs running in a DOS box will not access the USB ports. You also have other choices to consider as well. One is to look into a PCMCIA card adapter that comes out to 1 or 2 comm ports. Although this solution is way more spendy than the USB serial cables. The other choice is to get a USB hub that has the serial ports present on the hub. By the way,,,,the cheapest place to find the USB to D-9 serial cables is on eBay. Michael Karas |
